The Crossing — Second Edition Is Here

Today, I'm excited to announce the release of the Second Edition of The Crossing, Book One of the Blood of the Crossing series.

When The Crossing was first released, it introduced readers to Rhys ap Hywel, Margaret Hughes, Elin, and a journey beginning in the hills of Wales in 1608.

But The Crossing was also the beginning of something larger.

As the Blood of the Crossing series continued to grow, so did my understanding of these characters, their world, and the story I wanted the complete series to tell. Eventually, it became clear that I needed to return to Book One.

Not because I wanted to change what The Crossing was — but because I wanted to give its story the depth it deserved.

The new Second Edition features deeper character development, strengthened scenes, refined pacing, and an expanded telling of the journey that begins the Blood of the Crossing saga.

Rhys, Margaret, and Elin remain at the heart of the novel. The road still begins in Wales. Virginia still waits across the Atlantic. But the journey between those places — and the people making it — has grown richer.

This Second Edition is now the definitive edition of The Crossing and the version of Book One that carries the Blood of the Crossing series forward.

To everyone who bought the original edition, left a review, recommended the book to a friend, followed Blood of the Crossing on social media, or simply told me that these characters stayed with you: thank you. You were there when this journey began.

The response to The Crossing helped convince me that Rhys, Margaret, Elin, and the world surrounding them deserved an even larger story. I hope those who return to the Second Edition will recognize the story they first discovered while finding new moments, greater depth, and an even stronger connection to the books that follow.

And if you've never read The Crossing before, there has never been a better time to begin.

A home can be taken. A name can be erased. But some people refuse to disappear.

Historical Notes

The Welsh in Early Virginia: What the Records Show

Welsh names appear in the Jamestown records from the earliest years of the colony — but they are often anglicised, fragmented, or buried in lists that were never meant to preserve identity. A look at what the documents reveal and what they conceal.

Writing

On Writing Women Who Don't Wait to Be Rescued

Meg Hughes was never going to be a passive character. Writing her meant thinking carefully about what agency looked like for a Welsh widow in 1609 — and about the difference between historical accuracy and historical limitation.

Cover Reveal: The Crossing

The cover for Book One is here. The image — a solitary figure walking toward a distant ship — captures something essential about the story: the moment before the crossing, when turning back is still possible.

Historical Notes

Enclosure, Eviction, and the Road to Virginia

The displacement of Welsh farming families in the early seventeenth century was not a single event — it was a slow erosion of customary rights, accelerated by English law and the ambitions of men with documents. How that process shaped the world of the series.

Writing

Book Two: What I Can Say So Far

Book Two of the Blood of the Crossing saga is underway. Without giving too much away: the story moves deeper into Virginia, the consequences of the first crossing begin to compound, and several characters you met in Book One will face choices they cannot take back.
